Samantha Louise Bayley was born on 10th June 1988 to Bill and Shelley. She has two brothers, Robert and William and the family live in Hilperton Trowbridge, Wiltshire. She trains at Wiltshire School Of Gymnastics where she is coached by Tracey Stockill. Samantha started gymnastics at her primary school when she just was 5 years old. It soon became obvious that Sam's talents extended beyond the coaching capabilities there, and so she started training at the City Of Bath Gymnastics Club in 1995. In 2000, a new gym opened up nearer to where Sam lived, so along with her coach Tracey, Sam moved to the new club in Melksham where she still trains today. Sam's main ambition in gymnastics now is to represent Great Britain in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. When she's not training hard, or competing internationally for Great Britain, Sam enjoys relaxing by watching TV, (her favourite program is Eastenders) listening to music, readingand playing with her cats Smokey and Misty
Samantha began competing internationally in 2001. She did very well at the Olympic Hopefuls Competition in The Czech Republic, winning the silver medal in the all around competition. That year she also competed in Australia at the Canberra Cup returning home with the bronze medal from vault finals and highly commendable 4th and 5th place finishes on floor and. In 2002 she helped her team to a well deserved 8th place finish at the Junior European Championships, in Patras, Greece. A fantastic vault worker, Sam is one of few gymnasts in the world capable of executing the very difficult layout Rudi vault. Samantha Bayley is definitely a gymnast to watch in the run up to Athens 2004.
