Sixteen-year-old Helen has been a key member of the British Junior squad for a few years now and she lists competing at the 2002 Junior Europeans and representing Scotland at the 2002 Commonwealth Games as her best achievements to date. Helen's favourite apparatus' are beam and bars, and she made the event finals on both of these at the Commonwealth Games. Known for her sky-high Jeager on bars, Helen will surely be a challenge to Beth Tweddle come the next Nationals.
Helen, who previously trained at Solitaire, now trains at Wigan GC alongside her twin sister Carol and Cherelle Fenell. Under the guidance of coaches Mike and Janet Lea, Helen has seen a huge improvement in her gymnastics over the last few years. Helen started gymnastics because "I spent more time upside down than the right way up, so my mum took me to a local sports centre to do recreational gym".
Helen's career was hampered in 2000 with a double fracture in her ankle, but she managed to bounce back, even better than before. After gymnastics, Helen is interested in becoming a physiotherapist but she has plenty of time to think about that. For now, it's mainly her goals in gymnastics that are on her mind... she would love to represent Great Britain at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
