Many fans of British gymnastics will recognise Katie as one of the three British gymnasts who went to train at Dynamo Moscow for a week, as part of the BBC TV programme 'Trading Places'. Training and competing against some of Russia's finest gymnasts, Katie, and her team mate Laura did amazingly well under the circumstances. Their Russian coach was impressed by their determination and desire to learn, and she was also impressed that the girls didn't seem afraid to try new things and would give anything a shot. During that one week, Katie learned many new and impressive skills. Before that week, at 4ft, Katie had always been too short to catch a pak release between the bars. However, her new found confidence pushed her to try new things, and she mastered the pak in just a few practices. She also learned a tuck front mount to beam, and a double tuck back dismount. During a competition in Russia, Katie impressed the judges so much with her floor routine, that she won the silver medal on the event, behind the Junior European Champion from Russia, Anna Pavlova. The head coach of Dynamo Sports School was also very impressed with Katie and said that he thinks she has what it takes to become a fine gymnast, as good as some of the Russian girls, and definitely British number 1. Katie lives in Brighton and trains at the nearby Dynamo School Of Gymnastics, in Southampton. She is a very bubbly and outgoing girl, and likes to keep in touch with her friends from the National Squad when they are not training together up at Lilleshall. Floor is Katie's best event, where her difficult tumbles and adorable choreography earned her the floor silver medal at the 2001 Junior British Championships. 2002 was a quiet year for Katie but we hope to be seeing more of this pint-sized star in the future
