Melissa Wilcox was born on February 8th, 1983. Coached by Carol and Pat Malone at the Easton Gymnastics Club in Bristol, England, Melissa become a key member of the British National Team. Melissa was the 1997 British Junior National Champion, and was a member of the Junior Europeans team in 1998. At the Europeans, Melissa qualified to the floor exercise event final, where she tied for 6th. In 1999, Melissa failed to make the British World Team, but came bouncing back in 2000, grabbing a spot on the Olympic Team. Unfortunately, Melissa injured her ankle just prior to the start of the Games, and was forced to withdraw. Melissa began 2001 with a bang, placing 1st all-around at the Switzerland vs. Great Britain dual meet, and placing 3rd at the British Championships. These results helped Melissa make the British World Team, and in Ghent, she helped Great Britain to its best ever team finish- 9th, Melissa announced her retirement from gymnastics at the end of 2001.
