Tweddle, Downie, advance to finals

Just like in 2004 it was a long, painful wait for Beth until the very end of competition to find out if she'd qualified to the bars final. This time, it was good news! Beth secured her spot in finals with a 15.650 after a mistake in her routine kept her score down. Within seconds of mounting the bars Beth hit her feet on the low bar, but miraculously carried on as normal, like nothing had happened! Luckily the mistake wasn't too serious to keep her out of the finals, and no doubt Beth will be looking to improve on today's performance in the final.

Becky Downie also had cause for celebration with a comfortable qualification into the All-Around final for Friday. Her score of 58.075 placed her 19th. Congratulations, Becky!

Unfortunately GB just missed out on a spot in the Team Final, but we hope Becky Wing, Imogen, Hannah and Marissa all enjoy relaxing now that the action is over for them!

UPDATE ON BETH - AA QUESTIONABLE
There are conflicting media reports about Beth's participation in the All-Around in Beijing. The BBC are reporting that Beth will not compete on vault and beam because of her rib injury but British Gymnastics is stating that no decision has been made, with the final decision coming on the day of competition. She'll stay an extra 3 days in Maccau and then re-join her team mates in Beijing shortly. Feel better soon, Beth!

Olympic Team in Maccau
The team arrived at the pre-Olympic holding camp in Maccau last week, and have been enjoying the sunshine and training in the lead up to the Games starting next week! The team have been training hard but have also had chance to un-wind and have even met the players from Chelsea football club who are also training in Maccau. Photos of the team from Maccau can be found in the gallery and we'll be adding more news, photos, videos and results as they happen. Only 10 days to go until the Opening Ceremony!

The BBC has reported that Beth has a slight rib injury which has hampered her training but does not seem to be a major worry. We hope not!!
