Gymnast of the Year

TBGN: Why did you decided to do NCAA in the US?
NW: I decided to do NCAA in the US because I thought that it looked like a lot of fun! I felt that it was great an opportunity for me. It was the best move I could have made!

TBGN: Was it a big adjustment when you moved to the US?
NW: The biggest adjustment when I moved to the US was the huge university. I had never been a part of something so big, it was also hard for me to get used to doing school and gymnastics at the same time again. It also hard understood the NCAA and the rules in compared to International gymnastics.

TBGN: How often do you get to go back home to Britain?
NW: I get to go home to Britain twice a year. I go for Christmas and some time in the summer. My parents and brother come and watch me at one meet a year so it's nice to have their company and support. I have great friends here in the USA and also in England so I love being in both places.

TBGN: When you got a shoulder surgery during your freshman year, was it easy or hard to get back in shape?
NW: Actually it was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I did work very hard everyday with my trainer and physio to get into shape but it was not too hard to get my skill level back. My coaches gave me time and support in coming back to gymnastics.

TBGN: Was it difficult for you to adapt your routines to NCAA level?
NW: No it was easy for me to adapt my routines. My coaches changed some things and everything worked out nicely.

TBGN: What is it like to work with your UF coach, Rhonda Faehn?
NW: It's awesome! She is very positive and gives me useful corrections during practice. She is also a fantastic woman out of the gym.

TBGN: What are three words that best describe your team?
NW: Supportive, determined, dedicated. (I love these girls!)

TBGN: Which competition is your favourite so far? Why?
NW: This is a hard question but I have to say SECs last year because we won! I didn't have a very good meet but it was so amazing to see how the team stuck together and all did the job so that we could win. It was also a fun and exciting meet!

TBGN: What are your plans after you graduate from UF?
NW: I'm really not to sure about my future plans. I am focusing on my final year of gymnastics and then I have one more year to finish my education. I will take next year to seriously think about my future plans.
