News from Ukraine
March 29, 2003
As you know, Great Britain have had a team of gymnasts representing them in the Stella Zakarova Cup, in Kiev, Ukraine. The British girls all performed well considering the standard of competition was so high. Vanessa Hobbs was Britain's highest AAer, followed by Lamara Robb with 33.05, and then Rhian Pugh. Vanessa scored well enough on beam to make the final on that piece. Unfortunately, some major errors in the final meant her score was 7.525, placing her 6th. For the men, Kevin Sellars opened is AA competition on floor and unfortunately fractured his foot on his first tumble! Also injured was Amy Dodsley, who watched the competition from the stands after peeling off bars and hurting her foot in training.

March 29, 2003
This evening the Spanish team, lead by world floor champion, Elena Gomez, defeated the British Senior and Junior teams in a fun and friendly match in Aldershot. British captain Beth Tweddle performed only on bars due to a slightly hurt ankle. Her score of 9.575 was the highest of the meet, and one of only 6 scores over 9.0. One of the others was from Becky Mason on vault, and the other 4 belonged to Elena Gomez. The British Jnrs looked stylish but had a lot of falls on beam and floor. However, all deserve a pat on the back, for some girls this was their first international and they did really well under the pressure. A more indepth report and some photos are coming very soon!

Exciting weekend!
March 7, 2003
Exciting weekend promised as Beth aims for hatrick and new talent aim to make their mark Guildford Spectrum hosts the British Championships this weekend, with Beth Tweddle the only defending champ on the start list. Going for her third consecutive title, Beth is hoping to equal the record set by Lisa Mason in 1996, 1997 and 1998. With her amazing routines, especially on bars, the title is well within her reach, but Beth has recently been bothered by a foor injury. However, starting on floor, Beth has her two weakest events out the way to begin with, leaving her to make up room on bars and beam. Beths main rivals for the title will be best frien Nicola Willis of South Essex and Sandbachs Rebecca Mason. Vanessa Hobbs, Lizzie Line, Cherell Fennel and Amy Dodsley will also be fighting for all around medals. Top contenders for the Junior title are Sam Bayley (WSOG), Heathrows Lamara Robb, Bristols Rhian Pugh, Amy Bagshaw from Park Wrekin and Liverpool duo Melanie Roberts and Kim Lyon.

The espoir catagory promises to showcase Britain's Olympic hopefuls of the future, the up and coming talent who will one day become the next Annika Reeder, the next Beth Tweddle. Aislings Williams is one of the main threats for this title, along with Amy Fossheim and Hayley Dodsley from South Durham, and WSOG's Hannah Wickens.

Notable absentees from the competition will be Becky Owen and Katie Lennon in the senior competion with back and elbow injuries respectively and Danielle Border in the juniors, who injured her knee last week during vault training. Best of luck for all recoveries!

TBGN will be in Guildford and will bring you results, reports and photos as soon as we can so please stay tuned!!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL COMPETING!!!

Beth still best in Cottbus
