Welsh Gymnasts Succeed in Spain
december 19th 2007

Swansea Gym Club (Wales) competed this weekend in Vic (north-east of Spain) with brilliant results. Lizzie Beddoe and Jessica Hogg came first and second in the all around while Swansea won the team competition.

The competition, the 3rd edition of Tornieg de Vic, featured the top clubs in Spain (Xelska, Covadonga and Gimnāstic Osona), and gymnasts from the Netherlands, Norway and Czech Repbulic. Last year, Grace Imeson and Joana Lawrence-Pledge representing Newcastle had an extraordinary performance as well, making this tournament a good build up competition for young British gymnasts.

Bronze for Marissa in Beijing
DECEMBER 2nd 2007
Huntingdon gymnast Marissa King was GB's lone competitor at the 2008 Olympic test event "Good Luck Beijing" after Hannah Clowes withdrew with injury. Marissa's stuck vaults in event finals earned her the bronze medal. Congratulations Marissa on an amazing result!

DOUBLE GOLD FOR GB

There were plenty of celebrations up in Glasgow this weekend. Not only did Glasgow win their bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games, but the British gymnasts won two gold medals at the annual Grand Prix event. Huntingdon's Marissa King pulled out two amazing vaults to claim her first Grand Prix gold. Beth had an uncharacteristic fall on bars but redeemed herself by performing a great floor routine to claim gold over Czech Nicole Penchecova. World bronze medallist on pommels, Louis Smith went one better to win silver behind Daniel Popescu of Romania.

Performing without captain Beth Tweddle, the young team of British gymnasts pulled out some great performances to place 7th in the team final, ahead of Russia. Resting for the all-around and event finals, Beth sat out and gave the younger girls chance to shine on the world stage. Becky Downie was strong to lead the team, improving since prelims. Marissa King also improved on vault and bars, and was steady on beam despite not having competed it in prelims.

TEAM FINALS FOR GB!
September 2 2007
Tonight in Stuttgart, Germany, the British women's gymnastic team pulled out all the stops during the preliminary rounds of the World Championships. Not only did they come in the top 12, qualifying a full team to the Beijing Olympic Games, they placed 6th and qualified for the Team Finals! Beth qualified to three finals after placing fourth in the all-around, third on bars and floor exercise. Becky Downie placed 11th on bars and 10th on vault. She is third and second reserve respectively. The women's team final will be on Wednesday, on September 5th. The competition starts at 2:00 PM. Congratulations & good luck, girls!

GB ANNOUNCES WORLD TEAM
AUGUST 20TH 2007
The seven gymnasts traveling to Stuttgart was officially announced by BAGA today although there were no surprises. The team is Beth Tweddle, Aisling Williams, Hannah Clowes (all Liverpool), Laura Jones, Becky Downie (Notts) Marissa King (Huntingdon) and Becky Wing (Heathrow). The working order and the alternative will be decided in the coming days. TBGN would like to wish all 7 gymnasts all the very best of luck. It will be the first world championships for 5 of the ladies, and we hope they enjoy it!

GB Grab seven medals
August 5th 2007
During the apparatus finals yesterday afternoon, Great Britain grabbed two gold, two silver, and three bronze medals. Marissa King won a silver medal on vault with the score of 14.400 right behind Czech Republic's Jana Komrskova. During the bars finals, Becky Downie placed second while Aisling Williams won the bronze medal. Three-time British National Beam Champion, Laura Jones, won the beam title ahead of Czech Republic's Nicole Pechancova and Great Britain's Hannah Clowes. On the last event, floor exercise, Marissa King placed first with Becky Wing third.

GB Wins over CZE & SUI

Some of the potential world's team is in Czech Republic this weekend for the Great Britain vs Czech Republic and Switzerland competition. The all-around and team final were yesterday, Friday afternoon. Great Britain won ahead of Czech Republic and Switzerland. Becky Wing of Heathrow placed second in the all-around while Nott's Laura Jones third and Aisling Williams of Liverpool fifth. Becky Downie and Marissa King did not compete on all apparatus. The individual apparatus competition is today. Results and news will be coming soon as soon as the event finals are over.

HANNAH 4TH IN BELGRADE!

Liverpool's Hannah Whelan came an excellent 4th place AA at the European Youth Olympic Festival - the highest result ever for a British gymnast at this competition. Liverpool team-mate Abi-Louise Kirby came 16th.

Jordan out of EYOF
July 22nd 2007
Jordan Lipton has had to withdraw from the British team for the 2007 European Youth Olympic Festival in Serbia later this week. Nott's gymnast Jordan was selected along with Abi-Louise Kirby and Hannah Whelan but the hip injury that forced her to sit out the British has not healed in time. It is thought that reserve Hannah Freeman will now travel to Belgrade with the team.

Event Finals
July 8th 2007
Huntingdon and Liverpool dominated the senior's event finals today at Guildford Spectrum. Marissa King of Huntingdon grabbed the vault title while Marissa's team mate Emma White placed second and Nina Dearman of Vernon Park took the bronze medal. On the next apparatus, the City of Liverpool completed a clean sweep of medals on bars. Without surprise, Beth Tweddle won the bars title with a huge score of 16.350. Aisling Williams and Melanie Roberts won silver and bronze respectively. Hannah Clowes of Liverpool won the balance beam title. Right behind her was Huntingdon gymnasts Marissa King and Kayleigh Cooke. On the last apparatus, Kayleigh Cooke of Huntingdon grabbed the floor title with Aisling Williams second and Marissa King third.

Becky Downie of Notts added three more medals to the all-around crown she claimed yesterday. She fell on vault with her double twisting Yurchenko but still won the vault title. Lara Wilson of City of Newcastle and Laura Jones of Notts tied for the second place. Downie did an outstanding routine on bars and grabbed the gold medal while the City of Liverpool gymnast Abi Kirby grabbed the silver medal. Both Laura Jones and Rebecca Wing shared the bronze medal. On the next apparatus, Laura Jones continued to dominate the beam like she did in the last two years. Right behind Laura is Hannah Whelan of Liverpool and the bronze medal went to Hannah Freeman. Rebecca Wing of Heathrow won the floor exercise title with Becky Downie second and Hannah Whelan third.

During the espoir's vault finals, Nicole Hibbert of Heathrow threw two awesome vaults to claim the vault title with a huge score of 14.325! Newcomer from Liverpool, Jennifer Pinches, placed second while the Espoir National Champion, Dansuia Francis, took the bronze medal. Danusia Francis won the bars title with a clean routine. Right behind Danusia is team mate Nicole Hibbert. The third place went to Notts gymnast Niamh Rippin. On the next apparatus, Danusia claimed another title on beam. Nicole Watson of Park-Wrekin won the silver medal with Sophie Fitzgerald of Carousel third. On floor exercise, Niamh Rippin placed first ahead of team mate Ruby Straw. Nicole Hibbert grabbed the bronze medal.

7th Title for Tweddle

With many GB stars missing due to injuries, Beth Tweddle of the City of Liverpool easily claimed her seventh consecutive title with AA score of 59.750. Beth's team mate Hannah Clowes unexpectedly placed second while Aisling Williams grabbed the bronze medal. Melanie Roberts of the City of Liverpool placed fourth ahead of newcomer Marissa King from Huntingdon. With no surprise, Marissa dominated vault with a huge score of 14.650. Downie Captured Gold, again

Congratulations to Notts gymnast Becky Downie who won the Junior British National title for the second time this evening at the Guildford Spectrum. Becky was two-time Espoir National Champion and was crowned Junior National Champion last year. Behind her in second place was Rebecca Wing from Heathrow Gymnastics Club while Becky's team mate Laura Jones earned a bronze medal. Welcome to the brand new British Gym Net! After 6 years it was time for a fresh new look! We hope you enjoy the new-look website and all our new features, as well as all the great information from the old site.

We have launched the website just in time for the 2007 British Championships this weekend. Beth Tweddle looks set to claim her 7th consecutive title, with Aisling Williams and Marissa King keen to get on the podium. Two-time espoir champion Becky Downie is favourite in the Junior category, with Laura Jones, Becky Wing, Abi Kirby, and Hannah Whelan hot on her heals. Last year's espoir champ Jordan Lipton is sitting out the Championships but hopes to be back to full fitness in time for the European Youth Olympic Festival towards the end of July in Serbia along with Whelan and Kirby.

TBGN would like to wish all the gymnasts competing good luck, the team will be there so you can expect photos and news soon after the event. Sunday's event finals will be broadcast live on BGTV so if you're not lucky enough to have tickets, you can still enjoy all the action!
Double Silver for GBR

Daniel Keatings (Huntongdon) and Beth Tweddle (Liverpool) won silver's a piece for Britain at this weekend's European Championships in Amsterdam. Daniel put in an excellent display on the pommel horse and Beth claimed silver after a very clean floor routine. In the vault finals Marissa King placed a respectable 6th and Hannah Clowes finished 20th in yesterday's all-around final.
